The Field Monitoring Terminal (FMT) is the unit that monitors your equipment or systems and relays the alarm notification to the Guardian Server.
The FMT has 7 inputs which can then monitor 7 different functions of one piece of equipment or a mixture of different functions from multiple pieces of equipment.
Each input monitors 2 states i.e. high or low, alarm off or on.
The standard FMT communicates via GPRS.
Other types of FMTs are available which can communicate via Local Area Networks (LAN) or Satellite.

SMS alert systems will send the notification to a pre-defined number or set of different numbers.
This is where Guardian and SMS alert systems then start to differ:
Where the SMS alert sends the notification and doesn't take up any further action, Guardian takes it further by:
So in summary, Guardian not only notifies you of faults on your system, but keeps track of them and ensures your staff or sub-contractors are aware of it, take responsibility for it and follow-up on the repair of the equipment/system.
The Field Monitoring Unit (FMT) communicates via GPRS to the Guardian server via the Internet.
